Due to the high demand for services, we are often operating on a waitlist. However, we are always working to create addition evaluation slots whenever possible to shorten the wait time. We aim to keep our waitlist to 3-4 months. Please reach out for the current waitlist timeline.
You can also consider starting with one of our tutors while you wait for an evaluation. Please see the Tutoring page for more information.
It's up to you! An evaluation helps us get the best information about your child's skills and areas of need. However, if you already know what tutoring services would be beneficial, then tutoring is a great first step while you wait for an evaluation appointment.
There are 4 components of each evaluation that are completed over 3 or 4 dates (depending on if the first two are combined or separate).
The initial parent intake interview is one hour.
There is a full day of in-person testing for the child at either at our Minnetonka or Burnsville location.
Then, you and your child will meet with Dr. Amy online for the remainder of the child testing and for the Results and Recommendations session for parents.
You will receive the final diagnostic report from Dr. Amy within two weeks (often sooner!).
Then, our team offers a free academic consultation session to discuss how to collaborate with the school and identify other individualized interventions that may benefit your child.
The whole process is usually completed over 3-4 weeks total.
For the psychological portion (about 25% of the evaluation) Dr. Amy is in-network with Medica, OPTUM and United Health Care. Coverage will depend on your insurance plan and insurance approvals. The rest (about 75%) is considered academic and is not covered by insurance. The entire fee can often be submitted to your HSA.
Evaluation fees are:
$2425 (PreK - 5th grade)
$2650 (6th -12th grade)
Payment plans are available.
Please note that an informal Autism screening is included in the evaluation as needed. However, formal diagnostic Autism testing is not included. If you have significant concerns about Autism for your child, please let us know as we may we recommend that you reach out to a colleague for an Autism evaluation.
If your child's pediatrician or teacher has mentioned concerns related to Autism Spectrum Disorder, we would be happy to provide you with a referral.
We usually explain to students that our job is to figure out how their brain likes to learn. That way, if anything is difficult for them, we can figure out a way to make it easier.
Parents may decide to share that simple explanation, which can be helpful, especially for younger children.
You can also explain that we are all VERY nice! And that your child will get to do brain games and learning games with us.
We hope that helps, and we look forward to working with you and your child!
